Brixton Windmill Gardens SW2 is a safe space where children, young people and community grow

Our GreenHut located @BrixtonWindmill is now managed by our Charity, Community Education Foundation & Lyncx (CEFLyncx). The structure  was built in the 1970s and it is located next to the historic Brixton Windmill, a national and local heritage at Brixton Windmill Gardens (Park), Blenheim Gardens in Brixton Hill SW2.

Our GreenHut is set in an enclosed area of approximately, 68.83 square metres (740 square feet) within Brixton Windmill Gardens and is easily accessible directly from Blenheim Gardens, off Brixton Hill, or via footpaths leading through to Windmill Gardens with several bus routes services running on Brixton Hill from and/or to Brixton Underground make our GreenHut a prime location choice for hosting diverse range of Community, Corporate and Commercial events.

It shares immediate boundaries with the newly built Windmill Education Centre to one side, the Themes Water monitoring station to its rear elevation and the Blenheim Gardens Housing Estate to the other side with a clear view of the Windmill Gardens (Park) to its front elevation and a converted warehouse of luxury apartments to the distance of the boundary of the park.
 
The park has only one entrance which means finding us is very easy because our GreenHut can be seen from the gate to the right leading into the park.

 

What Happens @ Our GreenHut

Our GreenHut @BrixtonWindmill offers a safe space where we co-produce opportunities and nurture children, young people, families and community to be creative, develop and learn to express themselves by engaging in diverse range of stimulation structured and non-structured but supervised activities. This inclusive approach  provide a wrapped-around service that supports the whole community from cradle to maturity.

Our GreenHut being in an enclosed space in the Windmill Gardens (Park) offers privacy as well as safety and the freedom to benefit from the use of the large area of  open space in the park and still experience the benefits of our structured activities for children, young people, families and the community like our:

      • Stay & Play provisions that provide opportunities for pre-school age children and their parents/carers to engage in 'open ended play' activities.
      • School Holidays Active & Food programme supporting school age children engage in diverse range structured sports, recreation and creative activities
      • community open house where groups such as parents' network come to deliver their objectives or a space with 'open ended' activities for the elderly.

As well as the above, Our GreenHut is suitable for hosting not just community activities such as youth and community services, but it is also a great space for hosting Corporate, Commercial and Community events such as
      • Meetings
      • Away Days
      • Parties
      • Wedding Reception

Our structured and supervised activities for children, young people and the wider community runs at various times and include but not limited to:

  • Youth & Play Scheme for over 5’s
  • Early Years/Stay & Play for under 5’s
  • SENDsational Club for children with SEND needs
  • Teenies-Sensation Learning & Skills Development for Teenagers
  • Learning and Skills Development for Parents/Adults
  • Seniors' Moment and Inter-Generational Gathering Sessions
  • Professionals' Information & Advice Surgeries

Our response to change meant, we have designed our service in a way that is wrapped-around our community and offering the opportunity for them to achieve cross-cutting benefits/outcomes while encouraging the Corporate and Commercial sectors' involvement in achieving benefits for the community.

We have in place a booking system that provide opportunity for the community and businesses to support our course through engaging with Our GreenHut at an affordable rate and/or book to use our 'Secret Garden' that is located at a secret location at Our GreenHut for not only a quiet reflection time for a group or the individual but access to a garden gallery of paintings developed by the community.

Preschool offer @ Our GreenHut, Brixton Windmill SW2 (formally the Brixton Windmill One O'clock Club) have had a face-lift and is Now Open offering diverse range of weekly preschool activities for parents and children aged 0 - 5-year-olds so, visit us to discover workshops, playgroups, and educational sessions that cater to your child's development needs and if you have the need, don't miss out on the opportunity to engage with experts in stay n play and meet other parents.


Our Preschool offer is designed to bridge the gaps in early years' service accessibility locally. It provide a safe space filled with comprehensive resources to meet individual parent and child's needs and enabling/empowering parents and their little ones to engage the resources and pursue their ongoing learning and development needs. 

 The provision offers an integrated service that empowers parents to make informed decisions and fostering a nurturing play and learn environment for their children in their early years and below are some of the activities that parents can access:
 

    • Tuesdays, 10:00 to 15:00 - Minders Link-up Plus
Our Minders Link-up run from 09:30 to 11:00 offering a safe space and opportunity for child minders and children to come and access not only our diverse range of child development resources but to network, share good practice ideas and connecting children with the wider community of children in their care with 'My One O'clock Club running in the afternoon, from 13:00 until 15:00 allowing children to engage in sessions organised specifically to foster their interaction and growth.
 
    • Wednesdays, 10:00 to 15:00 - Stay N Play
An 'open-ended play Stay 'n' Play session run between 10:00 until 12:00 providing opportunity for parents and their child(ren) to drop in and take advantage of our diverse range of child development resources, engage and/or observe their children interact with not just the play and learning resources but also with other children in the space. Parents beware, your children might get a little 'messy' during the afternoon 'Surprise' Club session. This runs from 13:00 until 15:00 brings to children and parents an 'open ended' free but coordinated play and learning session, allowing kids to explore their creativity while engaging with the surprise activities.
 
    • Thursdays, 10:30 to 15:00 - Family Dance N Movement with One-Drop Afternoon
Our Dance 'N' Movement session run from 10:30 to 11:30 is designed to offer children and parents the opportunity to interact with others and 'let go' some emotions, free up some muscle while engaging with the music in a playful and communicative way but also engaging in team working, cooperation, and collaboration adding to improving their overall balance i.e. spatial awareness and coordination all of which add to improving their social and motor skills significantly. Finishing the week with a 'One-Drop' session  from 13:00 to 15:00 binding together play with information & advice service  offering a comprehensive approach to child development and other, ensuring that families have access to the resources needed for their child's growth.

Our Core Activities:

We collaborate with local people, partners and secondary support sources to develop and run learning and capacity building opportunities that help children and young people to discover pathways that lead them to improving their life chances; for example, learning options that lead them to accessing more opportunities. We achieve this objective through co-production approaches involving young people, parents and partners to develop and offer diverse range of services on social housing estates in Lambeth.
